During June, 1915, the 2nd Devonshire battalion of 23 Brigade, 8th Division were in the line from Rue Pincantin to the Bois Grenier road a few miles south of Armentières. They were not involved in any heavy fighting during this time but there were some casualties for the battalion with the threat of shell fire, gas and the sniper’s bullet ever present. Night time patrols were a regular feature and these too added to the casualty list. Harold Bristow who died from wounds on 9th June but there are no further details regarding his death. |
